Harold Owen Powell, 91, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at High Point Regional Hospital. He was born May 11, 1928 in Burke County, NC, the son of Jesse James Powell and Cordelia Lail Powell. Harold retired as a foreman from Nelson Machine Company. He proudly served his country in World War II as a member of the United States Army and was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Harold was deeply devoted to his family and enjoyed all of the time that he spent with them, but especially enjoyed camping, fishing, or playing golf with his loved ones. He also loved racing and was extremely knowledgeable about cars in general, but mostly loved Fords.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Delene Burns Powell, who was the love of his life and his best friend. He was also preceded in death by both of his parents, his brothers Elbert Powell, Bernard Powell, and Bill Powell, along with his sister Marie Powell Moores.
Surviving are his loving children, Joyce Case, Brenda Faulkner, Wayne Powell (Jackie), Dean Powell (Teresa), Dottie McMath (Marty), Penny Powell (Phillip Lee), and Julie GeBauer (Patrick), as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Harold was an amazing man and his memories will be deeply cherished by all who knew him.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday October 24, 2019 at 12:00 pm at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel conducted by the Reverend Darryl Walker. Interment with Military Honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.
Memorials in Harold's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
