The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 PM Friday, April 13, 2012 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel in Jamestown, NC. Family will also receive friends Saturday afternoon, April 14, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Cole Memorial Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC, followed by the funeral service which will start at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at St. Luke United Methodist Church in Lancaster, SC
Born in Chester, SC, to the late Thomas Lindsey Grant and Rebecca Knox Grant, Mrs. McKeown was a long-time and very active member of Cole Memorial United Methodist Church. She worked for The Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte for over 20 years. She was a loving and devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family. In years past she was the president of the PTA, was a den mother in the boy scouts, was an accomplished seamstress, and enjoyed crocheting. In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, William Haskell McKeown, Sr.; and her siblings, Ted Grant, Ella Walker, and Jim Grant.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Billie Baynes and husband Ken of Jamestown; sons, Mac McKeown and wife Kathy of Greensboro, Bruce Grant McKeown of New York, NY, and Ray McKeown of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Ken Baynes, Jr. and wife Terri of Jamestown, NC, Kim Bowman and husband Chad of Kernersville, NC, Heather Rhodes and husband Jimmy of High Point, NC, Cameron McKeown of Raleigh, NC, Cory Hicks and his mother Stephanie Hicks of Knoxville, TN; great-grandchildren, Holly Bowman, Justin Baynes, Jackson Bowman, Tyler Rhodes, and Lauren Rhodes, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the caring staff at Adams Farm Living and Rehabilitation Center for their wonderful care.
