George Thomas Hyatt, Jr., 76, a resident of Kernersville and former resident of Greensboro passed away on Wednesday June 8, 2022. He was born August 10, 1945 in Greensboro, the son of the late George Thomas Hyatt, Sr. and Margaret Ledbetter Hyatt.
George was a graduate of Grimsley High School and in 1977 the Freewill Baptist College (Welch College) in Nashville, TN. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a dorm supervisor at the Tennessee Youth Center from 1974-1977, Pastor at First FWB Church in Kermit, TX from 1974-1979, Pastor at Levelland FWB Church in Levelland, TX from 1980-1983, Pastor at Zion FWBC in Corpus Christi, TX from 1984-1987, Pastor at First FWB Church in Reidsville, NC from 1992-1994, Senior Customer Technician at Apria Healthcare Systems from 1987-2001, Assistant Teacher from 2001-2005 and Pastor at Reidsville FWB Church, Reidsville, NC from 1995-2005, and George worked with Harvest Children’s Home from 2005-2014. George was an active member of Sheraton Park Freewill Baptist Church.
He was married to Judy Webster Hyatt who preceded him in death on December 15, 2019.
Surviving are one son, Joshua Paul Hyatt of Knoxville, TN; three sisters, Barbara H. Kessler of High Point, Diane H. Sorrell and husband Ron of Covington, TN., Shirley H. Durham and husband Mike of Greensboro and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday June 16, 2022 at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by Pastor Kraig Spivey. Interment with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
