George was born in Geneva NY, October 6, 1934 to George E. R. Hervey and Laura Ray Hervey. He married Cynthia (Cindy) Hervey in 1985, at Duke Chapel in Durham and they were married for 36 years. George grew up in Geneva and attended Syracuse University and graduated with a degree in Geology. This led to his job with the USGS in Arizona and later with the Arizona Department of Highways. He then moved back to NY to attend Cornell University and graduated with an MBA. This led to his job with Eastman Kodak in the Health Sciences Division where he worked for 25 years before retiring. After retirement he worked part time as a medical courier and also began volunteering at Colfax Elementary school where his youngest son, Drew, was a student. He volunteered for several years and the staff was very appreciative of his service. George was a lifetime birder and was very involved when he lived in Memphis, TN where his first Kodak assignment took him. He belonged to the Tennessee Ornithology Society and participated in annual Christmas bird count as well as birding every weekend. He was lucky to have been able to bird and learn with some notable Ornithologists there. After moving to Raleigh, he continued this hobby and once again was very avid and involved with local birding events. He was a member of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology, Nature Conservancy, Audubon Society, and briefly the Carolina Bird Club locally in Greensboro.
George is survived by his wife and best friend, Cindy and his 3 sons, George E.R. Hervey III of Raleigh, NC, Alan Hervey of Arlington, VA and Drew Hervey of Mesa, AZ. He is also survived by one sister, Mary Hervey Smith, of Torrance, CA as well as 6 nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by one son, David Hervey.
To honor his request, there will be no formal service at this time. A private family ash dispersion will be at later date.
