A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday July, 28, 2015, at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel, 515 North Elm Street, with Rev. Paul Speagle officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park.
Roger was born November 23, 1939, in Guilford County, NC to the late Joseph and Blanche Coble Shoe. He was a graduate of Nathanael Greene High School. He served six years active duty in the National Guard and two years in the Reserves as a Military Police.
Roger retired from Piedmont Natural Gas where he was welder. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Kimesville. Some of his enjoyment in life was fishing, gardening, his family, and friends, his John Deere Tractor and his two beloved pets Banjo and Rosie. He enjoyed hosting huge cook outs that could easily have 250 friends and family in attendance.
Roger was always willing to help anyone out. He was loved by all and will be missed.
In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his brothers, Banner, Pete, Gayle, Wade, Glenn, Ronald, Allen, Norman Friddle and his sisters, Birt McIntyre, Donnie Edwards, and Garnett Harmon. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Arlene B. Shoe; children, Crystal Winfree and husband David of Madison, Steven Roger Shoe and wife Tammy of Julian; grandchildren, Cierra York and husband Nick, Jason Shuff and wife Tiffany, Jordan Knight, Stephanie Shoe, Alan Winfree and wife Penney, David Winfree, Jr.; great grandchildren, Savannah York, Ella York, Mark Winfree and wife Brooke, Mason Winfree, Dalton Winfree and brother, George Shoe and his wife Elizabeth of Julian. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.
