Born on July 1, 1944 in Salisbury, NC she was the daughter of the late Henry George Brockman and the late Frances Blume Crowell Brockman. Caroline was a 1962 graduate of Greensboro High School, presently known as Grimsley High School. After high school, she graduated from UNC-G in 1966 with her Bachelors of Music and in 1967 with her Masters of Music. Caroline was a member of two sororities while at UNC-G, Mu Phi Epsilon Sorority as a member of the Alpha Xi Chapter in 1964 and the Society of Pi Kappa Lambda in 1967. Following graduation, she taught in the Flint Michigan School System and then returned to Greensboro where she taught at Kiser Middle School and Greensboro Day School. She was a talented musician and played the flute in the both the Flint Michigan and Greensboro Symphony Orchestra. Caroline enjoyed knitting and crocheting and was an avid reader. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Greensboro as well at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Florence, SC.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Heritage Home of Florence and to Dr. Howell for their wonderful and compassionate care of Caroline over the past 1 ½ years. They would also like to thank Pastor Jay Hilbinger of First Lutheran Church for officiating Caroline's service as well as Pastor Rusty Kehl of St. Luke Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Frances Brockman.
Caroline is survived by her son, William Shrigley of Columbia, SC; her daughter, Catherine Turner and husband Bert of Scranton, SC; two grandchildren, Eleanor Turner of Scranton, SC and Brock Shrigley of Columbia, SC; and three cousins, Roy Bell, Jr. of Concord, NC, David Bell of Raleigh, NC and John Bell of Brandon, FL in the Tampa area.
A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Friday, December 16, 2022 at First Lutheran Church, 3600 W. Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC with Pastor Jay Hilbinger officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service starting at 9 am. Interment will follow the service at 2 pm at Rowan Memorial Park, 4125 Franklin Comm. Center, Salisbury, NC.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to UNC-G School of Music, First Lutheran Church, McIver Music Fund, 3600 W. Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27410 or St. Luke Lutheran Church 1201 Cherokee Road, Florence, SC 29501(www.stlukeflorence.org).
