I will never forget the twinkle in Eunice's eye and her family's loving care for her. Because I am a hospice volunteer who visited Eunice's roommate, I frequently chatted with Dot and Eunice in the late afternoon. Speaking from the perspective of my nine years in nursing homes, I found Dot's devotion to her sister to be unparalleled. And I was deeply impressed by Raymond and Bessie's commitment to Eunice when I was visiting my patient at other times of the day. Eunice was a "letter/card angel" here on earth.  I was first introduced to Eunice through my mother-in-law, Mary Buckner.  She and Eunice were side-by-side at Burlington Industries and Mary spoke of her kindly and highly respected her as close and dear friend, both during their Burlington tenure and even after the retirements. She always wanted to call Mary, instead of Mary calling her sometime...they would talk sometimes for a short time and sometimes for a long time. After Mary moved in with us (her son Bill and myself, Janice), we could always expect a call at least once a week from Eunice.  If I answered the phone, I would chat with Eunice and then pass the phone along to Mary. When Mary became sick, we still could expect the phone call checking on her and upon her sudden death, we called Eunice and offered a special ride to her funeral.  I have continued to send Christmas cards each year to her house, but never got a reply, now I know why...she was in the nursing home. The three us even visited with Eunice in her home one time.  She was a delight. And yes, she was always sharing how many cakes she was baking or had baked for the church events.  She was a special lady. With fond memories we will remember her.

Eunice - a beautiful legacy. She was my Sunday School teacher in the old white building, before the new church classrooms were built. She instilled her faith and enthusiasm for Jesus through her words and her actions. Too, her letters of friendship and faith were of great comfort to my mom through the years.

Hickory Grove has lost one of its best missionaries, but Heaven has surely gained an angel.

Eunice Pitts will always be remembered as Hickory Grove's " in house" angel.  Her letters of encouragement always came at the right time.  Just ask any college student and you will hear a story of how a letter from Eunice kept them going when it seemed no one cared.  

As a single Mom, I can verify her letters put the personal spin on how I knew for sure God was listening when I prayed.  Many times the
answer came through a letter from Eunice.

We were so saddened to hear about Eunice. She was a close family member who always had time to write us, keeping us included in her life.  Her knowledge and love of our family history gave us a sense of our past.  We love her and will miss her greatly.
