Mrs. Esther Galloway Walker

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Lawndale Baptist Church by Rev. Marion Boling. Interment will follow at Westminster Gardens.

Esther was born August 9, 1921 in Transylvania County, NC, the daughter of Robert Thurman Galloway and Dessie Chapman Galloway.

She was lifetime charter member of Lawndale Baptist Church where she belonged to the Faithful Journey Sunday School Class. During World War II, Esther was a wing riveter at the Ford Motor Company, Willow Run Plant in Detroit, MI, where she worked on B-24 Bombers. She was also employed as a knitter with Guilford Mills for over 30 years. Esther was a Girl Scout Leader and enjoyed flowers, gardening and spending summer days at their mountain home in Blowing Rock.

In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her sister, Nettie Adcock, and brothers, Alvin and Nelvin Galloway.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Joseph V. Walker; daughter, JoAnn Walker Wells and husband Perry of Chesterfield, VA; son, Michael Walker and wife Linda of Brentwood,TN; sister, Cleo Lance of Pickens, SC; sister-in-law Clovey Galloway of Rosman, NC; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service, at the church.
