Eloise Margaret Wiedenmann Lewis entered God’s Kingdom peacefully, surrounded by her family on Monday, June 10, 2013.
The only beloved daughter of John and Eloise O’Neil Wiedenmann of Schenectady, NY, Eloise was born on July 15, 1921, and lived there until this young patriot joined the WWII effort by enlisting as Army nurse in 1944.
In 1945, Eloise met the love of her life, the late John K. Lewis, Sr (Jack). Following their nuptials, they began a new life together in Miami, FL, happily raising 3 children. In addition to her duties at home, Eloise was an active Board Member of Catholic Social Services of Miami (FL) for 13 years.
Following the premature death of Jack, the children sent their mother on a Holland American cruise, and before disembarking again in Miami, Holland American had convinced Eloise that she needed to join their staff as a World-Cruise Hostess! Eloise “sailed the world” for the next 9 years, until her retirement in 1980.
Eloise then moved to Ormond Beach (FL) where she immersed herself in community outreach at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, leading the “knitting brigade” for the Pregnancy Crisis Center and volunteering in the “Like New” Shop, whose proceeds directly supported the Community/Social Services program at Prince of Peace.
Eloise leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her children, John K. Lewis, Jr. of Northern CA; James (Jim) Lewis and his wife Kimberley of Greensboro, NC, and Deborah Lewis Perry and her husband Henry Perry of Westwood, MA. Eloise was blessed with 4 wonderful grandchildren: Jeannette Lewis Cabera, her husband Ralph and great-grandson, Luke Cabera of Miami, FL; Andrew Lewis and his wife Violet of Long Beach, CA, Matthew Lewis of Alameda, CA and John David Perry of Quincy, MA.
Eloise was a vivacious spirit with a gentle soul; she had a loving and generous heart, and was always giving to others. Eloise was fortunate to have enjoyed a lifetime of varied experiences and adventures, but her proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly her children, grandchildren and most recently, great-grandson.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Saint Pius the Tenth Catholic Church, 2210 North Elm Street, Greensboro, NC with a reception immediately following in the Kloster Center where the family will receive friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Eloise’s name to Catholic Social Services Diocese of Charlotte, Piedmont Triad Regional Office, 627 West Second Street, PO Box 20185, Winston-Salem, NC 27120-0185, www.cssnc.com or Saint Pius the Tenth Catholic Church, PO Box 13588, Greensboro, NC 27415, www.stpiusxnc.com.
