Doris will be remembered for her Christian faith exemplified through her daily acts of kindness, loving smile, and grateful heart. A Celebration of the Resurrection will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Friends Home Guilford with Rev. David Partington officiating. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service.
Mrs. Benton was born on February 19, 1921, the daughter of the late Reverend R. K. Davenport and Arrie Summers Davenport. Her childhood was spent in Fuquay Varina, Willow Springs and Whitsett before coming to Greensboro. She graduated from Greensboro Senior High School (Grimsley) and attended Greensboro College. Prior to her marriage, she worked at Jefferson Standard. Mrs. Benton retired from UNC-G, where she worked in Registrar’s Office.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Woodrow Benton, and son James Richard Benton. She is survived by her daughter Karen Benton Rinehart of Greensboro; grandson James Bradley Benton (Lisa), granddaughter, Kendra Benton Trull (Garry); and four great grandchildren all of Greensboro.
Her family wishes to extend gratitude for the love and exceptional care shown by the staff at Friends Home Guilford and by Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro.
