Mrs. Cole graduated from Lillington High School in 1954. She went on to Campbell College graduating in 1954. Mrs. Cole then completed her education at East Carolina College (now East Carolina University) in 1958 where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. Mrs. Cole taught first grade in Lee County and Guilford County schools. After the birth of her own children, she chose to be a stay-at-home mother, caring for them and her home and supporting her husband in his own endeavors. She loved children and continued to teach young children in her church as long as she was able. She loved God and was a member of Cornerstone Baptist church in Greensboro, NC where she enjoyed attending and participating in her Sunday School class and Joy Group! Mrs. Cole loved her husband and children and felt blessed to have so many church friends!
She is survived by her loving husband, Herbert M. Cole, of 62 years, daughter Susan Cole Kirkman, (husband Perry) of Oak Ridge, NC; son David Scott Cole (wife Lori) of Oak Ridge, NC; son Jonathan Alan Cole of Oak Ridge, NC (fiancé Tonya Gerringer of Reidsville, NC); two grandsons Nolan Scott Cole (wife Elissa) of Lexington, NC; Jacob Austin Cole (wife Landyn) and great grandson Beau Scott Cole of Stokesdale, NC. She is also survived by her brother Stephen Hedgpeth of Randleman, NC, and sisters Jean Tew of Lillington, NC and Linda Hunt of Sanford, NC. In addition to her parents preceding her in death is her son, Marcus Clay Cole in 1974.
Visitation with the family will be Saturday May 7, 2022 from 11:00 AM – 12:45 PM at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 W. Gate City Boulevard, Greensboro, NC followed by a service to celebrate her life officiated by Dr. Rick Byrd. Interment will be in Guilford Memorial Park.
