He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, from which he received a Bachelor's degree, as well as a Master's degree in Linguistics and a Ph D. in Gerontology. He taught courses at colleges in the UNC system before entering a long career owning and operating the Mandarin Gazebo Gift Shop in Greensboro, Chapel Hill, and Carrboro.
He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Shang-Ling Fu and his mother Mrs. Chen-Te Chang Fu. He is survived by a sister, Dr. Victoria R. Fu of Blacksburg, Va; a sister, Pearl Fu Magovern and her husband Dennis of Winston-Salem: a nephew, Shannon W. Magovern; and a niece, Kyna W. Magovern.
David was an extremely caring and sociable person who was devoted both to his family and to a multitude of good friends. He was a talented artist and pianist and was an avid supporter of UNC, especially all things athletic.
Dr. Fu will be laid to rest at 10:00 am Thursday, June 27 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro.
A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 607 North Greene St. at 11:30 am on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. A reception will follow the service at the church, where David was a faithful congregant.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hanes-Lineberry, 515 North Elm St., Greensboro.
