Cheryl Smith Leonard, 63, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at Moses Cone Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, 11:00 am at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Russ Reaves officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.
Cheryl was born in Greensboro on May 30, 1946, the daughter of Orvil T. and Ina Simpson Smith. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Cheryl was employed with Prince Georges County in Maryland as an Administrative Assistant until her retirement. She enjoyed planting flowers, working crossword puzzles and ceramics. Her greatest love was her family and her grandchildren who lovingly called her “Ahma.”
Cheryl was preceded in death by her father and husband Odell in 1998. Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Neal Leonard, wife Camille and Cherdell Leonard, all of Greensboro; mother, Ina Simpson Smith; brother, James D. Smith, wife Betty of Leland, NC and her grandchildren, Taevon Thomas, Taylor and Justin Leonard.
Memorials may be made to the Elevator Fund at Immanuel Baptist Church, 2432 High Point Road, Greensboro, NC 27403.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at Hanes Lineberry Vanstory Chapel
