Cheryl G. Doolittle was a supportive and dedicated wife, loving mother and indulgent and doting grandmother. She was also a loyal sister and for more than thirty years a caring and compassionate nurse. She passed away on November 24, 2019 at Wesley Long Hospital at the age of 75. A celebration of her life will be at 1 PM, Saturday, November 30, 2019 officiated by Reverend Matthew Johnson at Glencoe United Methodist Church, 601 Glencoe Church Loop, Summerfield, NC 27358. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Cheryl was born in Chatham County, GA to the late James Earl and Mary Lucy Pierce Gindlesperger. In 1970 she graduated from Hamlet Hospital School of Nursing in Hamlet, NC and lovingly cared for the needs of others at Randolph County Hospital, Wesley Long Hospital Coronary Care and ICU early in her career and Intracorp as Nurse Case Manager later in her career. The willingness to put others needs before one’s own is a characteristic of many skilled nurses but for Cheryl it was a natural gift. Service to others came effortlessly to her through her occupation and through her service to Christ as an active member for many years at Glencoe United Methodist Church where she served with the United Methodists Women, Nomination Committee and Administrative Council.
She and Bill loved to make memories traveling to places like the Blue Ridge Parkway, Charleston, Savannah, and Ocean Drive in North Myrtle Beach. During these travels they enjoyed shagging to live music, and sharing great food and drinks, laughs and fellowship with friends and family. One of her favorite gatherings began over 30 years ago as an annual trip during the first week of December finding the perfect Christmas tree with her closest and dearest friends in the mountains. Cheryl could always find the best boutique for shopping in each town as she traveled for work or fun and loved playing mahjong and dominoes with her neighborhood friends. Her famous cheese soufflé was her most requested dish by her family and a staple at the most special of celebrations!
She is survived by her soul mate of more than 50 years, William E. Doolittle of Summerfield; children, Michael Doolittle, of Denver, CO, Heather Doolittle Crowder (Daryl) of Reidsville and Amanda Doolittle Raddatz (Andy) of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Ryan Doolittle of Cary, NC, Jordan Doolittle of Charlotte, NC, Holden Crowder of Greensboro, NC, Mason Crowder of Reidsville, NC, Mary Raddatz and Ben Raddatz both of Denver, CO; siblings, Angela Gindlesperger Davis of N. Augusta, GA and Steve (Joan) Gindlesperger of Evans, GA. Cheryl is preceded in death by her brother-in-law Walt Davis, her parents and many special aunts and uncles.
Her family expresses their deepest gratitude to her sister Angela, Dr. Sherrill and the many doctors, nurses, specialists, and volunteers at the Wesley Long Cancer Center for lovingly and compassionately caring for our wife, mother, grandmother and sister.
