A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm St. Chapel in Greensboro, with Pastor Jim Owen officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service at the funeral home from 1:00 until 2:00 pm. Charlie will be laid to rest at Westminster Gardens Cemetery at a later date.
Charlie was born September 2, 1929 in Blue Rapids, Kansas to the late John and Nellie Mullen. He graduated from Marysville High School in Kansas in 1947, received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) in 1958 from Wichita State University in Kansas; and a Master of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering (MSIE) in 1968 from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Charlie retired from AT&T as an Engineering Supervisor. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Navy from 1947 until 1951. Charlie was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who enjoyed playing golf and writing. He was a member of Toastmasters International – ATM (Accomplished Toastmasters) and was a Registered Professional Engineer in NC. In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Willis Mullen and his second wife, Kathryn Pope Mullen; a sister, Kathleen Ware; four brothers, John W., Gerald, Richard, and Robert Mullen; and his son-in-law, Chris Fulp.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Bonnie Fulp of Greensboro, NC, Sherry Wheeler (Ronnie) of Mount Airy, NC, and Cindy Falotico (Frank) of Ellwood City, PA; son, Rik Owen of Burlington, NC; sister, Rosemary Mullen of San Diego, CA; brother, Loren Mullen of Mission, KS; grandchildren, Mark Wheeler of Charlotte, NC, Jared Owen (Lovae) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Frank Falotico (Nicole) of Santa Clara, CA; Sara Falotico of Charlotte, NC, Aaron Wheeler of Mount Airy, NC, Luke Wheeler of Charlotte, NC, and Jillian Fulp and Molly Fulp of Greensboro, NC; great-grandson, Jaxton Owen of Myrtle Beach, SC; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family.
