Charles (Charlie) S. Cagle, 93, beloved husband of Dorothy C. Cagle and son of Snoten and Effie Cagle passed away at home on Monday, August 17, 2020 surrounded by his family and his faithful dog, Champ.
He lived in High Point and spent the last two years living closer to family in South Carolina. Charles, a graduate from High Point High School was a World War II Navy veteran. He joined the High Point Police Department when the department had only two traffic patrol cars and four motorcycles. He advanced within the department from traffic officer, detective, sergeant, lieutenant, and later retiring as a captain in the patrol division and community services operation. In 1969, he led the first vice squad and during his tenure the ‘Charlie’s Angels’ was formed, a trio of young policemen who thrived on working the streets and doing undercover work.
Charles liked woodworking, gardening, fishing, playing golf and relaxing with a cold Pepsi Cola. He especially enjoyed breakfast with friends. He also kept up with technology using a smart phone and his computer on a daily basis. Most importantly he took care of his loving wife of 73 years and loved his family.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Dorothy, include daughter, Pamela Chavis (Marvin) Wagener, SC; two granddaughters Heather Farrer (Dale), Aiken, SC; Michelle’ Mandel, Aiken, SC; and three great-grandchildren Tyler Farrer, Nicholas Mandel, Nathan Mandel and a nephew and many nieces.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Margaret McGuire and grandson-in-law, Michael Mandel.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel conducted by High Point Police Department Chaplain Jonathan Lewis. Entombment with honors conducted by the High Point Police Department Honor Guard will be in the Sedgefield Memorial Mausoleum at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
