William “Billy” Gordon Edwards, 68, a resident of Jamestown died Monday January 17, 2011 in High Point Regional Hospital. Mr. Edwards was born in Beulaville, NC a son of Adolph and Mary Aileen Brown Edwards.
Billy spent his childhood on a farm in Eastern North Carolina. His experiences created a strong work ethic and an appreciation for hard work.
Billy proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964. Following his military service, he joined the Greensboro Police department and rose through the ranks to Lieutenant. During his career with the police department he earned a Bachelor’s degree from Guilford College. He then left the police department to pursue a law degree from Wake Forest University. While attending Wake Forest, he earned an MBA from UNC-Greensboro.
Upon graduation from Wake Forest University School of Law, he began to practice law in the Outer Banks. He later settled in Jamestown where he opened his own law practice. Billy had a wide range of interests and abilities. He was a well-known general contractor in Jamestown, building many homes and commercial properties. Billy had a love for golf, scuba diving, and sailing as well as anything that would utilize his strong mechanical aptitude. He was happiest when he had multiple projects going on at the same time. During his life he traveled to many interesting places, but especially liked going to Holden Beach with his girlfriend, Cindy.
Surviving are his girlfriend, Cynthia Carrington of Greensboro; one daughter, Laura Elizabeth Edwards of Oak Ridge; one son, Scott Edwards and wife Suzanne of Raleigh; two sisters, Mary Edwards Campbell and husband Ransy of Jamestown, Edith Edwards Hartis of Goldsboro; two brothers, Mitchell D. Edwards and wife Gail of Thomasville, James Edwards and wife Tricia of Tavares, FL and two grandchildren, Kevin and David Edwards.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Gate City Baptist Church, 5250 Hilltop Road, Jamestown, NC 27282, conducted by Pastor Michael Owens. The family will receive friends on Saturday at Gate City Baptist Church from 12:30 p.m. until time of the service.
