Billy “Bill” Dwayne Benton, 71, a resident of Greensboro, passed away on Monday March 13, 2023. He was born August 8, 1951, in Glendale, Arizona and the son of the late William “Willie” Heard Benton and Alvareita “Rita” Oleta Hood Benton.
Bill was successful veteran of the furniture industry. He began his career as a warehouse team member at Levitz Furniture in Phoenix, Arizona. He quickly climbed the ranks, where he spent more than 30 years in senior management posts at Levitz Furniture and Roberds. He then formed an importing firm, Avalon Professional Worldwide (APW), as President. He continued his career as the President & CEO of Powell Company. Bill then went on to become the President of CR International, a sourcing division of Chromcraft Revington Inc. Billy was a founding partner of Folio-21 Furniture, which was eventually sold to HT Hackney. Later in his career, he headed up South Seas Rattan Furniture.
Aside from his impressive career, most importantly, Billy was a loving father.
Bill never met a stranger in his life and had a way of making people feel at ease. He was never without his humor and wit and loved to make everyone around him laugh. He was known for his charisma, sense of humor, and his ability to make anyone feel like they were important.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Lindsay Benton, Katie Benton (Danny), and Jami Pool (Jeff), two granddaughters, Ashley and Ella, as well as the mother of his daughters, Barbara Benton and ex-wife Connie Post.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life Honoring Billy on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at the Planned Furniture Promotions (PFP) office/showroom located at 212 East Russell Ave., in High Point; adjacent to Center Point on Hamilton - Free Parking available behind the buildoing. It will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with Oral Tributes at 5:00 p.m. Attendees are welcome and encouraged to share stories about Billy.
