Beth Mazer

Dr. Jennifer Beth Mazer, 50, died unexpectedly on February 1, 2022, in Greensboro, North Carolina, after suffering an aortic dissection. She was welcomed into Heaven by her father, Charles, who preceded her in death by almost 20 years.

Beth was born on December 31, 1971, in Lubbock, Texas, but from age 8 months was raised in Texarkana, TX. She attended Texas High, completed a BS in biology at Austin College, and went to medical school at the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio. Born with Turner syndrome, a chromosomal condition, she saw pediatric specialists her entire childhood and aspired to help other kids by becoming a pediatrician herself. She lovingly cared for patients in Palestine, Nacogdoches, and San Antonio, TX, before moving her talents and her family to NC in May 2019.

Beth loved to travel and to sing. She was fluent in Spanish. She was a terrible cook but usually happy to help with the dishes. She appreciated the simple things in life: riding waves at the beach, a game of Uno, a walk in her neighborhood, a bowl of Blue Bell ice cream, cuddles on the couch with her kids and her cats. She had a loud and infectious laugh; once she started, you just had to join in. She was incredibly stubborn but claimed to have inherited that from her mom. (It served them both well.) She was a faithful Methodist and prayed for anyone with any burden.

Beth is survived by her husband, Jerry Hooper, and her children, Kayden (11), Katie (11), and Gracie (8) Hooper (Greensboro, NC); her mother, Barbara Hampton (Mebane, NC); her sister and family, Sarah, Richard, Eli, and Abram Zink (Hillsborough, NC); her aunt and uncle, Carol Scott and Christian Pease (Palo Alto, CA); and her cousin, Cami Pease (Washington, DC).

A memorial service will be held on Sat., Feb. 12, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, 2600 Pisgah Church Rd., Greensboro, NC 27455. Masks are mandatory. Guests are invited to wear Beth’s favorite colors, purple and teal. There will be no indoor reception but the family will be available outside after the service.
