Mr. Barry Lynn Carter, 60, of Greensboro, formerly of Danville, VA, was transitioned to his Heavenly home on Tuesday October 3, in his home, with his family by his side. He had been in declining health due to the progressive disease of FTD, for the past 6 years.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at two o’clock in the afternoon at Hanes-Lineberry North Elm Chapel with Rev. Mike Hearp and Rev. John Connor officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.
Barry was born March 29, 1957 in Danville, VA, the son of Lloyd Carter and Lillian Beggarly Carter.
Barry was a graduate of George Washington High School in Danville, VA and was a member of Swansonville Pentecostal Holiness Church in Dry Fork, VA. Barry retired from the Danville Sherriff’s Department after many years of service. He was an accomplished Bass musician playing gospel music. He also enjoyed NASCAR and his favorite driver was Jeff Gordon. He was also an avid Miami Dolphins fan.
In addition to his parents, his brother, Frank Carter, preceded Barry in death.
Surviving are his wife, Tammy Hearp Carter, of Greensboro, children, B.J, Tiffany and Matthew Carter, all of Dry Fork, VA, and his step son Lance Pickeral of Greensboro; sister, Judy Roberson (Allen) of Danville, VA; grandchildren, Jeremy, Bryson and Dylan.
Friends will be received Thursday, from twelve noon until one thirty in the afternoon, prior to the service, at the funeral home.
