Barbara and Mack Kennedy

Barbara Murchison Kennedy, 91, a resident of Whitestone passed away on February 23, 2020. She was born April 1, 1928 in Greensboro the daughter of Doyle A. Murchison, Sr. and Beulah Taylor Murchison.

She was married to Mack Elias Kennedy who preceded her in death on December 1, 2019. She wasa also preceded in death by her son, Wesley R. Phillips; a grandson, Patrick Phillips; two sisters, Peggy M. Becker, Florine M. Hopkins and her brothers, Doyle Murchison, Harold Murchison and Donald Murchison.

Barbara was an Accountant and was a member of N.C. Society of Accountants and the Central Society of Accountants in Greensboro. She was a member of Guilford Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia P. Rummel and husband Bill, Pamela P. Beeson; sister, Betty M. Oehman; grandchildren, Charles Thornburg, Geoffrey Thornburg, Quinn Phillips, several great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

Mack Elias Kennedy, 101 a resident of Greensboro (Whitestone) passed away on Sunday December 1, 2019. He was born September 25, 1918 in Augusta, GA the son of the late Joseph Reid and Frances Herring Kennedy. He was also preceded in death by his step-son, Wesley R. Phillips and a step grandson, Patrick Phillips.

Mack was a retired driver for Lehman Chemical Co. He was a 32 degree Mason and member of the Gate City Masonic Lodge 694 A.F & A. M. as well as a member of the Oasis Shrine. A veteran, Mack served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Murchison Kennedy; step-daughters, Cynthia P. Rummel, Pamela P. Beeson; grandchildren, Charles Thornburg, Geoffrey Thornburg, Quinn Phillips and several step great grandchildren.

A Service to Celebrate the Lives of both Barbara and Mack will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel. Interment will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until service time.
