A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, Jan. 9, at Centenary United Methodist Church, Greensboro, at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Kelley Groce, pastor, and The Rev. Don Ellis, Pastor Emeritus, will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service in the church Fellowship Hall and at 3:30 p.m. at Friends Home West, 6100 W. Friendly Ave.
Her life was dedicated to faith, family and friends and included a significant period of community service as well as a professional career. She worked alongside her husband, the late Randolph Ensign, in the company he built from scratch, Ensco Supply Company.
She was generous with her time and talents. She was always thoughtful of others and enjoyed volunteering wherever needed, particularly in her church. There she was a member of the choir for almost half a century. She and her husband were among the founders of the church's Pittard Sunday School class, and she was a member and past president of the United Methodist Women organization. She was honored by the Junior League of Greensboro for "a lifetime of commitment."
Angie, as she was known to her friends, loved to work jigsaw puzzles, never met a book she didn't want to read, and belonged to the Daubers garden club and the Greensboro Study Club. She loved animals of all kinds, was a constant learner, and was an amateur artist.
She was blessed to have dear friends in abundance, and the love and support they have given her and her family remains a major part of her legacy. Her positive outlook helped her maneuver life with joy and grace.
A native of Greensboro, she graduated from Greensboro Senior High School and UNC Woman's College, now UNC-Greensboro. In her professional life, she was an executive secretary at Burlington Industries and later secretary of Ensco Supply.
She met her husband on a blind date that led to a 54-year marriage. They had three children together and she delighted in raising them and being a homemaker par excellence. Later she enjoyed celebrating the interests of her grandsons and they lovingly called her “My-Mom”. She and Randy hosted three foreign exchange students who remain close to the family today.
She was predeceased by her husband and a son, Tommy Ensign. Survivors include son, R. G. Ensign Jr., daughter, Rebecca, and her husband Steve Sartore, and grandsons, Charles and Parker.
The family wishes to express its thanks and appreciation to staff at Friends Home West for their loving care and respectful service to Angie.
