Richard Henry Kiehna, age 54, of Spotsylvania, Virginia passed away peacefully Sunday, March 18, 2012 in Anderson, South Carolina. Richard was born on November 20, 1957 in St. Anns, Missouri, son of Wayne and Catherine Kiehna.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Candra Stroud Kiehna of Spotsylvania, VA; three children Joseph Henry of Asheville, NC, Kyra Beth of Richmond, VA and Margaret Anne of Spotsylvania, VA; four brothers and sisters-in-law: Lawrence and Teri Kiehna of Collierville, TN, James and Elisa Kiehna of Charlotte, NC, John Kiehna and Beverly Barnett of Johnson City, TN, Robert and Deborah Kiehna of Greeneville, TN; and one sister Karen Kiehna of Mars Hill, NC; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother Catherine Spitz Kiehna.
Richard was a graduate of Greeneville High School and went on to own and manage Colony Pest Control of Fredericksburg, VA. He was also actively involved in a broad range of outdoor adventure activities including canoeing, hiking, camping, fishing, rafting, and motorcycle riding. He was a strong advocate and supporter of the Friends of the Rappahannock, Adventure Riders, and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was also a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fredericksburg, VA.
Visitation will be at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home on Thursday, March 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, March 23rd at 11:00 am at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Greeneville, TN with Rev. Jim Harvey officiating. Burial will follow at Greenelawn Memory Gardens.
His pallbearers will be Robert Kiehna, James Kiehna, Larry Kiehna, Jack Kiehna, Mark Anderson, Shawn Dautant, and Kevin Ortner.
A memorial service will be held in Fredericksburg, Virginia at a later date.
In honor of Richard, donations can be made to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy.
