Ralph Brown graduated from High School in Mosheim in 1949. He entered the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and graduated from the University Of Tennessee College Of Dentistry in Memphis in 1956 where he was a member of Delta Sigma Delta Dental fraternity. He was a member of the Greene County Dental Society, First District Dental Association, and member of Tennessee Dental Associates and the American Dental Associates. Following graduation, Dr. Brown did his internship at the Georgia State Hospital in Milledgeville, Georgia, and a year tour of duty in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He obtained the rank of Captain in the Dental Corps and was a staff member at Womack Army Hospital in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He began his practice of Dentistry in Greeneville in 1959.
He also was a member of the Greene County Health Department for a year.
He served for many years on the Board of Directors of Greene County Bank and rose to position of Chairman of the Board.
He was a member of Asbury Methodist Church, holding several offices.
He also had a love for flying and enjoyed golfing in his later years.
During his younger years, he was actively involved with the 4-H. Through his retirement, he carried on his love for farming.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years: Carolyn Steele Brown; two sons and one daughter-in-law: Dr. Thomas Brown M.D. and his wife Rebecca of Greeneville and Samuel W. Brown, attorney of Atlanta, Georgia; and a granddaughter: Annemarie Brown of Greeneville.
He was the son of the late Jessie and Teulen Brown and was preceded in death by a brother, William Dudley Brown, and a sister, Rebecca Jane Brown.
The family will receive friends from 5:30pm-8pm Thursday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:30pm Friday, February 7, 2014, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. David Woody and Rev. Richard Long officiating.
Interment will follow in Brown Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Thomas Brown, Samuel W. Brown, Dr. Haden Scott, Gregg Bowman, and Doug Brown.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Holland, Bob Alexander, Dr. Dan Bottomley, and Dr. Kenneth Susong.
