He was born in Winthrop, Massachusetts on July 22, 1919. Mr. Bassett was a retired Chemical Engineer and had served proudly in the Navy during World War II. He was a faithful member of Notre Dame Catholic Church for many years.
He is survived by two daughters: Paula Bassett Slusher of Florence, Alabama and Pamela Bassett Lewis (Woody) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four stepchildren: Maria Turski Clevio (Robert) of Harrison Township, Michigan, Janina Turski Garner (Jim) of Orlando, Florida, Steve Turski (Debbie) of Farragut, Tennessee and Margaret Turski Lawless (David) of Chuckey, Tennessee: grandchildren, Britton Slusher (Tacha), Emily S. Mamaril (Richard), Philip Slusher, Laura S. Updike (Robert), Mary Kathryn Lewis and Allyson Lewis: step-grandchildren, Courtney Garner Spitz (Tim), Susan Garner Welch (Ryan), Stefanie Garner, Anthony Clevio (Kate), Angela Clevio Rahn (Daniel), Caitlin Turski, Cara Turski, Stephanie Turski, Chelsea Lawless and Andy and Cari Lewis. : great-grandchildren, Kayla Slusher, Abigail Updike, Emma Updike and Dottie Updike: step-great-grandchildren, Lilly, Gretta and Timmy Spitz, Cooper and Avery Welch, Jonathan Rahn and Callan Clevio. Mr. Bassett is also survived by his loving sister, Ruth Fitzgerald of New York, NY.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hilda Parker Bassett, and then by his second wife, Flora Turski Bassett, his parents, Charles and Lillian Bassett and his brother, David Bassett.
Paul was a very kind and good man, of very strong faith, who influenced many people throughout his life. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 26, 2012. Interment will follow in Greene Lawn Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
