A lifelong member of Greystone FWB Church, she faithfully attended until her confining illness. She was a faithful witness and a true Christian that was much loved by the congregation.
She played an active role in all aspects of church functions, served as vice-president of the Ladies Aide and served many years as church janitor. Music and singing for the Lord was a main interest and her distinctive alto voice reflected her love of singing. Through the years, she sang with the Greystone Girls Quartet, with her siblings, the Hopson Family, The Cousins Choir, The Kindred, and the church choir.
Many years were spent at Greystone Elementary School, as a cafeteria cook and afterward was complimented by the students for her cooking skills. Her reputation for butterscotch pies was admired by the many people who loved them, and she was well known for distributing pies throughout the community. Both she and her husband were members of the Greystone Ruritan Club until his death and her illness. After working as a cook, she worked on the farm and gardened in addition to being “Mom Mom” to her much loved grandchildren. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her loving family as she served them Sunday dinner.
Surviving are her two daughters and sons-in-law: Kim and Randy Hawk and Tammy and Stan Southerland; two special granddaughters and husbands: Tallie and Stephen Gregg and Nikki and Bobby Gregg; two step-granddaughters: Allie Long and Kerry McFarland; step-grandson: Austin Southerland; five special great grandchildren: Ryleigh and Brennan Gregg, Kolben, Kaseton and Kreeden Gregg: three step great grandchildren: Amelia Long, Ryan and Jillian McFarland; twin brothers: Jerry and Jimmy Hopson: brother-in-law and wife: Welden and Mary Mercer; several special nieces, nephews and cousins.
