Margaret Katherine Rutherford Brown

Margaret Katherine Rutherford Brown, 84, of Mosheim, Tennessee, passed from our midst on June 20 at 8:26 a.m. after an extended illness. She was born at Big Stone Gap, Virginia, the daughter of Rev. Clyde and Jewel Rutherford. Her father became a Methodist minister when she was four years old. As a result of this, she lived many places in Virginia and Tennessee and moved to Mosheim in 1944, where she married and raised her family.

Margaret became a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church at an early age. She was retired from Philips Consumer Electronics in 1995 with 34 years of service. While there, she was active in Local 796 I.U.E., holding many offices.

She was very close to her family and would want to be remembered for her desire to help people anywhere there was a need.

Survivors include: a son and daughter-in-law: Stephen and Beverly Brown; a daughter and son-in-law: Pamela and Marvin Shelton; four grandsons and three granddaughters-in-law: Spencer Brown, Gavin and Nikki Brown, Adam and Tiffany Shelton, and Eric and Amber Shelton; eight great grandchildren: Haleigh, Ashleigh, Chloe, and Cambrie Brown, and Tytus, Anslee, Colton, and Tessa Shelton; two brothers and three sisters-in-law: Rev. James and Carolyn Rutherford of Maryville, Tennessee, Jack and Betty Rutherford of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Bettie Brown of Mosheim, Tennessee; several special nieces and nephews; and two special friends: Pansy Baughard and Shirleen Harmon.

She was preceded in death in 1987 by her husband of 40 years, Clyde Brown; her father and mother, Rev. Clyde and Jewel Rutherford; a brother, Clyde Rutherford; two sisters-in-law: Margie Rutherford and Anna Mae Dawson; and two brothers-in-law: Blaine Brown and Glen Dawson.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. June 23 at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held after visitation at 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on June 24.

Officiating will be the Rev. Roger Crim and the Rev. Richard Long.

Active pallbearers will be Spencer Brown, Gavin Brown, Adam Shelton, Eric Shelton, Kenton Brotherton, and Clint Ricker.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Wesley Bible Class of Mt. Pleasant UMC.
