He was a former employee of Formex and Roger's Automotive.
Joe was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church.
He was a U.S. Army veteran. He enjoyed hunting deer and turkey, camping, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a devoted farmer and enjoyed being outdoors. He was a loving husband, daddy, and papaw.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years: Shirley Faye Hawk; daughter: Jo Michelle Hawk; son-in-law: Anthony Thompson; granddaughter: Kyla Hawk; aunt: Leona Hawk; several sisters and brothers and their spouses: Nancy Ottinger of Parrottsville, Lorane Hawk of Christiana, Junior and Janice Hawk of Morristown, Buddy and Pat Hawk and Roger and Alice Hawk of Mosheim, and Randy and Veronica Hawk of Bean Station; several nieces , nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins; and several close friends and neighbors: Remi and Vadis Sagadraca and bill Muse, just to name a few.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Grady and Willie Hawk; and brothers: Bob Hawk and Billy Jay Hawk.
The family will receive friends from 6pm-8pm Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
Following visitation, the funeral service will be held at 8pm in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Joe Phillips officiating.
Interment will be at 12pm Thursday at GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to meet at 11am Thursday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Seaton, Kreston Seaton, Michael Reed, Robert Reed, Remi Sagadraca, Todd Donahue, Freddy Hobbs, John Thompson, Danny Strange, and Dennis Neas.
Honorary pallbearers are his nephews, O&S Chapel Church, staff at James H. Quillen VA Hospital, Smokey Mountain Home and Hospice nurses, Pulmonary Care staff, Lincare Oxygen Supply staff, Caney Branch Fire Department, and Greeneville/Greene County EMS.
