Joann (Hobbs) Kirk Stanton, of Greeneville, 78, died Sunday morning, December 9, 2018 with her two daughters by her side. She was a loving mother, wife, sister, grandmother, and loved by so many throughout her life. Joann was a dedicated member of Christ United Methodist Church of Greeneville for over fifty years.
Joann was born in 1940 in Kingsport, TN and graduated from Ketron High School. She was the daughter of the late Haskell and Ena Hobbs and was a beloved sister to her five siblings. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Kirk, by which she shares two daughters, Tammy Kirk Bowman and Teresa Kirk Laskey. She leaves behind her beloved husband of over 33 years, Franklin Stanton, and their shared family.
She retired from Greeneville Eye Clinic after a 25 year career and loved running into her patients before and after retirement. Joann loved spending time with family and enjoyed listening to wonderful music. She enjoyed traveling with family and loved spending special time with her sisters. She cherished her grandsons who lovingly called her Nana.
Joann's family described her as: "A beautiful woman of faith who loved her family and friends. She had a contagious smile and laugh and a true heart for helping others." She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband: Franklin Stanton, of Greeneville; children: Tammy Kirk Bowman and her husband, John Bowman, of Greeneville and Teresa Kirk Laskey and her husband, Kevin Laskey, of Marietta, GA; stepchildren: Mark Stanton and David Stanton of Greeneville; grandchildren: Jordan Bowman, Tyler Bowman and his wife, Lyncee Bowman, William Laskey, Benjamin Laskey; stepgrandson: Zachary Stanton and his three daughters - Emma, Laynee, and Aizlyn; sisters: Linda Burns and husband, Pete Burns, Marilyn Brown, Kaye Woods and her husband, Sammy Woods; brother and sisters in-law: Maxine Hobbs, Bobby Kirk, Leroy and Della Stanton; several cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Kirk; her parents, Haskell and Ena Hobbs; sister: Carolyn Money; brother: James Frank Hobbs; and several other special family and friends.
Her family would like to send a special thank you to those who lovingly cared for her during her cancer journey: Dr. Hartsell's office, Dr. Patel's office, Dr. Bakshi's office, and Laughlin Healthcare.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 13th from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Kiser-Rose Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 14th at 11am with interment following at Oak Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Norman Wilhoit will officiate.
Pallbearers will include her grandsons: Jordan and Tyler Bowman; nephews: Jody Money, Todd Money, Lorn Brown, Doug Burns, and Brian Burns.
Honorary pallbearers include grandsons, William and Benjamin Laskey, and Jim and Mike Hobbs.
