Jim was well known for his friendly smile and sense of humor as a route salesman for Frito-Lay for 34 years and a faithful member of Greeneville First Church of God where he served in many capacities while his health permitted. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He loved his Tennessee Volunteers, and especially loved cheering on the Lady Vols and was presented with an autographed basketball and well wishes from Pat Summit on his 80th birthday.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Geraldine Britt Pierce; four children, Vicki (Chris) Stone of Johnson City, Randy (Paige) Pierce of Afton, Debbie Broyles of Greeneville, Sara (James) Carter of Greeneville; seven grandchildren, Leslie (Tommy) Staggs, Ryan (Brittany) Broyles, Josh (Courtney) Pierce, Andrew Stone, Rachel Broyles, Bryn Carter and Ava Carter; nine great-grandchildren, Hannah, Elijah and Julia Staggs, Aiden and Lakelynn Pierce, Zayne and Gunner Broyles, Cailee and Emma Broyles. Also surviving are sisters, Madge Britton and Betty Taylor; brother-in-law, Danny (Donna) Britt, sisters-in-law, Carol Fellers and Janie Melton as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James “Eng” and Rose Pierce; his brother, Paul Pierce, sisters, Alma Jean Pierce, Helen Jones, Mary Ruth Brown and his son-in-law, Larry Broyles.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 4 – 7 pm at First Church of God 1505 West Main Street. Funeral service will follow at 7 pm with Pastor Stephen Aiken officiating.
Interment will be on Tuesday at 10 am in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to meet at 9:30 am at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers are Ryan Broyles, Josh Pierce, Andrew Stone, Tommy Staggs, Elijah Staggs, Marty Fellers, Caleb Fellers and Mike Crum.
Honorary pallbearers are the FCOG Builders Class and FCOG JOY Group.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Leslie Zaragoza, Shelby Herndon and John Kollie of Sentinel Healthcare, Courtney Alley and Zonya Cureton of Caris Hospice and Dr. Ken Nickle of Summit Medical for all their loving support and care over the past several years.
