He retired from Domtar after 38 years of service.
He was a faithful servant of Jones Memorial AME Zion Church, where he sang in the choir, was a member of the finance committee and the steward board.
He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and a friend to everyone. He will be sadly missed.
Survivors include five daughters and four sons-in-law: Greta and Brent Hall, Cathleen and Yul Elliott, Charnita and Wesley Hammonds, Temple and Rodney Bennett, and Margo Hackler; son and daughter-in-law: James and Cassandria Whiteside; twelve grandchildren: Katherine Hackler, Fantasia Hackler, Aislinn Hall, Omar and Joslyn Hall, Jeanette Elliott, Jennifer Elliott, Westin Hammonds, Colby Bennett, Logan Bennett, Neviah Elliott, Christopher Butler, and Taesean Elliott; three great grandchildren: Tashia Elliott, Tyson and Arianna Hall; sister: Carolyn Hackler-Tipton; aunt: Mrs. Irene Huff Elder; life partner: Tina Scales; sisters-in-law: Rose Hackler and Jane Hackler; special friends: Ted Wilson and Jesse Deck; two special nephews: Robert Hackler III and Eric Hackler; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was the son of the late Robert Sr. and Margaret Huff Hackler and was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert Hackler Jr. and Jimmy Hackler; a sister: Floriene Billingsley, and a great grandson: Jackson Hackler.
The Memorial Service will be held at 11am Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Jones Memorial AME Zion Church with Rev. Dr. James Snapp and Rev. Donnie Wade officiating.
His body will be cremated.
