He was a state of Tennessee electrical inspector for Cocke County for many years.
Mr. Gregg attended Georgia Technological University for three and a half years, was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force having served in Viet Nam, and for over 40 years was an official with TSSAA having served as head referee for many of those years. He was also an avid Vol football fan, he loved to garden, hunt and fish.
Survivors include his wife: Betty Dunbar Gregg; two sons: William “Blake” Gregg and wife, Jennifer, of Franklin, Tennessee, Stephen “Barry” Gregg of Newport; stepson: Greg Mathes and wife, Charla, of Carrollton, Virginia; stepdaughter: Jenny Melton and husband, Jeff, of Greeneville; grandchildren: Ashlyn Melton, Delaney Mathes, Madison Gregg, Chance Gregg and Holden Mathes; step-grandchildren: Austin Melton, Hannah Melton and Leah Melton; brother and sister-in-law: L. C. and Pat Gregg of Newport; an uncle: Jimmy H. Gregg and wife, Valarie, of Newport; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the son of the late William Curtis Gregg and Geneva Trentham and was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Allen Gregg.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
