Mrs. Weems was retired from Master Electric in Dayton, Ohio.
She was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School as long as her health permitted and attended Victory Church of God.
She was born and raised in Charleroi, PA and moved to Dayton, OH, when she was a teenager. She was the last member of her family. She was an avid traveler having been in every state except Alaska. She loved bowling and she was active in leagues until her upper 70’s.
Survivors include a special niece and caregiver: Maureen Weems of Greeneville; two nieces: Adeline Povich and Delores Yates of Charleroi, PA; two sisters-in-law: Nell McKnee of Springfield, VA and Mary Burton of Brentwood, TN; a special great nephew: Ray Weems of Morrow, OH; a special great niece: Robyn Osman of Xenia, OH; two special caregivers: Janice Moore and Donna Trent of Greeneville.
She was the daughter of the late Peter Sowinsky and Marie Krygiska and was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Weems (1985) and her brothers and sisters.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011, in the Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel. Rev. Jim Fillers and Rev. Walter Moore will officiate. Interment will follow in Cross Anchor Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ray Weems, John King Weems, Danny Weems, Calvin Weems, Robert Johnson, Randy Capps, Josh Johnson, Roger Brown, and Adam Osman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Rollins, Bruce and Ann Crum, Bill and Doris Moncier, Rev. Larry Moore, Rev. Paul Cobb, Hubert Johnson, former members of Rehobeth United Methodist Church, Smokey Mountain Home Health and Hospice, Bill Tolman.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Kiser- Rose Hill Funeral Home.
