He was an employee of John Deere Power Products and an active member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, where he served as treasurer for many years. He had also served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
Gene was a wonderful Daddy and Pappaw.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years: Susie Harrison; three daughters and sons-in-law: Kristi and Casey Reagan, Sheena Harrison and Bryan Wright, Amanda and Justin Harris, all of Greene County; four grandchildren: Shianne and Levi Reagan, Noah and Emma Grace Wright; mother-in-law: Faye Dean of Greeneville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Wilma Ricker, Ray McIntosh, Danny and Bridgette Miller, Mitzie Adams, and Jerri Lynn Dean, all of Greeneville, Tommy Hinkle of Knoxville, and Jennifer Dean of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews; and six special nieces and nephews: Jennifer and Cassi Ricker, Lindsey Self, Lynn and Stevie Ricker, and Teresa Jones.
He was the son of the late George and Lizzie Ricker Harrison and was preceded in death by his first wife: Barbara Morelock Harrison; son: Gary Lawing; three brothers: a twin, Dean Harrison, Furman “Jack” Ricker, and Bill Ricker; and one sister: Helen Hinkle.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 5, 2011 in Kiser-Rose Hill Chapel with Rev. Dolphus Cutshaw officiating.
Interment will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
His pallbearers are Rodney Norton, Mike Lane, Lynn Ricker, Stevie Ricker, Bobby Jones, and J.C. Bishop.
His family, members of Mt. Tabor Church, fellow employees of John Deere Power Products, and Jerry Adams will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct a military graveside service.
