Born April 25, 1935 in Coatesville, he was the son of James William and Ada (Ashby) Poynter and was a graduate of Greencastle High School “Class of 1955”.
James retired in 2000 from Greencastle Community Schools where he had worked as a custodian.
He is survived by his children, Connie Thomas, Marcia (John) Reed and Janet (Jody) McDonald; six grandchildren, Sarah ( John) Pinson, Rebekah Thomas, Christin (Jason) Keller, Devon (Heather) Reed, Amber (Nicolette) Reed, Jamie (Jamie) Muensterman; great grandchildren, Ella Keller, Ethan Reed, Grace Muensterman, Olivia Reed, Harper Pinson, and Cooper Reed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Poynter; siblings, Earl Poynter, Thelma Bennett, and Dorothy Ault and son-in-law, Robert Thomas.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Bainbridge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home.
