In Loving Memory of Betty L. Scaggs
July 27, 1928 - November 9, 2024
Betty L. Scaggs, lovingly known as “Mam-Maw,” was born on July 27, 1928, in Greencastle, IN. She touched the lives of all who knew her with her warmth, resilience, and devotion to family.
After a dedicated career at JCPenney, Betty retired to focus on the things she cherished most. Together with her beloved husband, Arlie, she maintained a beautiful farm where they cultivated fruits, vegetables, and flowers - a testament to their shared love and hard work. Betty found joy in simple pleasures: shopping, time with family, and enjoying her famous fried chicken. She especially loved holiday gatherings, when her family came together to celebrate and share memories.
Betty was a strong, spirited woman who will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Arlie Scaggs and Kenneth; her daughter, Judith Griffin; and her son, Billy Scaggs.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her granddaughters Kathleen Davis, Kelly Griffin, and Kimberly Griffin; her great-grandchildren Anthony, Jalin, and Aaron Griffin-Smith, Johnathan Taylor, Morgan Taylor, Kayla Murphry, Brooklyn, and Madison Davis; and her great-great-grandchildren Nymia Porter and Aaron Griffin-Smith Jr.
Betty’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love she shared throughout her life.
Funeral Service is at 1:00 pm at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home on November 14th, 2024. Family will receive friends and loved ones from 11 am until time of service. Interment will follow at Brick Chapel Cemetery.
