William E Olson

William (Bill) Olson was born in Morrison, IL growing up on a farm. He attended a one room school with three classmates. His plan was to be a farmer, taking agriculture class in school. Bill graduated from high school in 1952 and enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War. He received technical training in electronics and was assigned to the 753 Aircraft Warning Squadron in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan. He married Lois Good on July 11, 1954. Upon his discharge, they returned home to help on his father’s farm.

In 1955, Bill began working for IBM, a relationship that lasted 37 years. He worked on several levels, technical specialist, manager and software division, in Chicago. He and Lois lived in Lombard, Illinois for 14 years and La Grange, Illinois for 22 years. During this time they attended Lombard Mennonite Church. He retired July 1991 when he and Lois moved to Greeley, Colorado on Labor Day of 1992.

Bill loved extended education classes, studying stained glass art, photography, carving, etc. During retirement he took long bike rides, walked the Poudre River Trail daily and began new hobbies. He enjoyed traveling, mostly overseas, including 44 countries and on 6 continents. He began golfing and woodworking making fine furniture. Hours more spent on photography, searching ancestors on genealogy sites and camping in the mountains.

Bill and Lois attended the Greeley Mennonite Church for many years and most recently, Sojourn Mennonite Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marshall Olson, and mother, Lucille Olson. He is survived by his wife Lois, daughter Deborah Miller (Mark), son Randall Olson ( Lois), son Curtis (Kristin) Olson, brother Robert (Lois) Olson, sister Marjorie Olson, and 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life for Bill will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Allnutt Funeral Service - Macy Chapel, 6521 W. 20th Street, Greeley, Colorado 80634, followed by a reception.
