He attended South High School and the University of Colorado, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served his country in the Army during the Korean conflict.
Stan worked with his father’s industrial equipment supply company, Joy and Cox, Inc., and later owned and operated the company known as Joy Controls after his father passed away.

They married in 1973 and celebrated 28 wonderful years together until her death in 2001. Stan also spent decades participating in the choirs at Lakewood United Methodist Church and Phillips United Methodist Church.
Stan traveled extensively throughout the world. He enjoyed the mountains and loved spending time at the Joy Ranch near Evergreen. He was a loyal member of the Lakewood and Lakewood Foothills Rotary Clubs for nearly 60 years, including serving as club secretary for 15 years.
Stan is survived by his children, Leslie Joy, Cheryl (Randy) Ready, and Karen Joy; four grandchildren, Heather (Andy) Kelly, Brian Lang, Timothy (Jamie) Ready, and Jeffrey “J.J.” Ready; and three great-grandchildren, Easton Kelly, LeAnna Kelly and Ryker Ready.
