Shannon was born in Greeley and grew up in Johnstown. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1988. She served in the United States Air Force from February 1989 to March 2009, when she retired. She then worked as a Clinical Administrative Assistant at RVNA.
Shannon was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She was an avid Colorado Rockies fan and loved going to the casinos in Blackhawk. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandbabies, participating in the family Summer Olympics and traveling. She was very proud of her military career, during which she traveled to Texas, Nebraska, Mississippi, Florida, Washington D.C., Ramstein Germany and Korea. She served one tour in Qatar, Iraq.
Shannon is survived by her daughter, Tessa Goldsmith of Omaha, Nebraska; son, Bryan Wilson of Omaha; parents, Connie Martinez and Robert Nira both of Johnstown; sisters, Sandy (Eric) Podtburg of Johnstown, Martha Gonzalez of Texas, Francis Nira of Greeley, Stella (Felipe) Vigil of Greeley and Olivia (Pete) Rangel of Greeley; brother, Robert Nira, Jr. of Greeley; two grandchildren, Logan and Layton Johnson; niece, Brooke Podtburg and nephew, Toph Podtburg of Johnstown.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
Services will be at 5:00 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2016 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Interment 10:15 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2016 at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Denver.
