Jo was born on March 17, 1938, at home in Johnstown, CO, to Ruby (Rogers) Fields and Walter Fields. She spent her early years in Johnstown, where she graduated from high school. On May 8th, 1959, she married Delbert Schmidt, and together they created a home rooted in love, hard work, and dedication to farming and ranching.
Jo balanced the demands of rural life with the joys of motherhood and also shared her creativity as a cake decorator for many years. She began by making these creations in her home and later worked at two local bakeries, crafting beautiful cakes for family, friends, and local customers.
She is survived by her daughter, Jodel McDowell of Chelan, WA; her three sisters, Helen Ford of Timnath, CO, Linda Fabrizio of Milliken, CO, and Kathy Wenger of Eckley, CO; and her brother, Robert Fields of Milliken, CO. Jo also leaves behind three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, whose lives will continue to reflect her love and legacy.
Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Schmidt, and her son, Michael Schmidt. She is also reunited with her parents, Ruby Fields and Walter Fields, along with her siblings Shirley Hardesty, Mary York, Howard Fields, Walter (Ernie) Fields, and Thomas Fields.
A celebration of Jo’s life will take place on Tuesday, November 19th, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Allnutt Funeral & Cremation – Macy Chapel in Greeley, CO. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens, also in Greeley.
