Roy Langley Schell was born on October 14, 1948, in Margarita, Canal Zone, Panama to Leon and Florence "Bobbi" Brown Schell. He passed away in Evans, Colorado, from complications due to COVID. For the last nine years, he was blessed to live in a host home where the family considered Roy one of their own children.
From his birth to age 73, Roy faced many hardships. Despite the hardships, he faced life with a smile and a gentle spirit. Roy's grandparents, Joseph Jefferson Brown and Margarita Domenche de Quayle Stewart Brown raised Roy until their health no longer allowed it. Next, Norma Glover was Roy's aunt and guardian.
Roy participated in Special Olympics and received many awards. He became blind at an early age. He was a client of Envision and Community Advantage. He was given opportunities to work and attend outings. Roy loved to travel. Anytime he was on an airplane he was soaring high in spirit. Roy kept his hair meticulous, his clothes clean and fresh, as well as having quarters all the time.
He was the fifth of eight children. He is survived by Linda (Steve) Roskop, Diana (Thayne) Dimmick, Jack (Linda) Schell of Martinsburg, West Virginia, Loraine (Roland) Shell (McIntyre) Lavergne of Dayton, Texas, Daniel (Kim) Schell of Hedgesville, West Virginia and Lona Schell Akers of Hedgesville, West Virginia. Roy was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as brothers, Robert Schell, Stanley Schell and Don Schell.
A visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2021 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Stoddard Funeral Home. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
