Lorrie Ann Helzer 88 of Greeley passed away April 17, 2020 at Fairacres manor nursing home with family by her side. Lorrie was born March 18,1932 to James and Blanche Higgason in Greeley Colorado. Lorrie was raised during the dust bowl and Great Depression. The family lived in Oklahoma, Kansas and eastern Colorado before settling in Greeley. Lorrie kept a specialty framed picture of the family farm in Clayton Kansas in remembrance of visits as a child. Lorrie graduated from Greeley High School. The family managed a small hotel in the Poudre Canyon during the summer months. Lorrie and her three sisters Phyllis,Marita,and Merryl spent their time cleaning cabins and enjoyed her time along the Poudre. Lorrie and one of her sisters became part of a skating group that performed around the country. As it turned out all four girls met their future husbands at the roller rink.
Lorrie married LeRoy Adam Helzer in November 5,1950 and they started a family and LeRoy was called into the Army Engineers and went to France during the Korean War. Lorrie and Leroy were blessed with five children Leland, Lanny, Lesley, Loren and Loretta. Sadly Loretta was not a healthy baby and passed away before the age of two. Lorrie is survived by her sons Lanny(Connie), Lesley, Loren(Cheri) and four grandchildren Garth, Katie, Eric and Macaela and four great grandchildren Ryan, Camden, Katarina, and Cyrus. Lorrie was preceded in death by her parents husband LeRoy son Leland and daughter Loretta and three sisters and spouses
Lorrie worked hard as a mother of four boys selling Avon, Amway and expertly making shirts for the boys. As the boys got older LeRoy quit driving truck and the family went back to farming. Lorrie continued sewing and raised a huge garden and was busy canning and freezing the fruits of her labor. As well as sharing with family friends and neighbors. As the boys left home LeRoy went back to trucking Lorrie did a variety of things for income. Her most treasured one being raising her African violets and supplying King Sooners and flower shops to sell. She worked for Mariposa maintaining plants at various businesses. Later Lorrie started making clowns and sold them until her vision started to fail.
Lorrie was able to stay in her home until October of last year with the help of programs to assist her. So thank you to all who help.
Faith in God has always been important in Lorrie’s life and she will be welcomed into Gods presence.
