LaVada Lorraine Oltman, 91, of Loveland, formerly of Greeley, died Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at North Colorado Medical Center, Hospice unit. LaVada was born on February 7, 1922 in Sterling, Nebraska to Henry William and Mary Wilhelmine (Weyers) Kelle.
LaVada grew up in Filley, Nebraska, where she attended school. After her education, she worked on her family farm. She later worked as a nanny and housekeeper during WWII. On January 20, 1946, she married Reinder “Ray” Oltman at the American Lutheran Church in Filley. He died on June 27, 1995. After their marriage, they farmed in the Beatrice, Nebraska area. They moved to Greeley in May 1960. They were members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
LaVada loved to dance, crochet, sew and fish. She was a meticulous person and did a lot of ironing for some people in Greeley. Her faith was a significant part of her life.
LaVada is survived by Dean Carlson, her special companion for the past 16 years, of Loveland; daughter, Mary Ann Wolfrum (Gary) of Greeley; son, Larry L. Oltman (JoAnn) of Greeley; sister, Bernice Jobman of Beatrice; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Norbert Kelle and Daylon Kelle.
No services will be held. Cremation.
