Johnny Valentine Kubis was born February 14, 1939 to Larry Kubis and Hilda Lent in Staton Island, New York. In his teen years Johnny only finished 1 year of high school and decided to enlist in the Army. He received a certificate of training in October 1957 for a Field Communication Crewman. (I’m happy he never seen combat due to he would want to drink coffee and talk to the enemy, I guess this would be his gift of gab). He served 6 months in Ventura California and then finished his contract with the California National Guard for the remainder of his 2 years, 4 months, and 21 days. He moved to Denver after his military term and decided to go to the trash business with Aurora F and S. During this time, he met his future bride, Shirley Archambo. So it’s said his middle name Valentine, he whooed Shirley into marriage less than a year later. They were married on September 27, 1958.
John and Shirley began their family shortly after having 4 children, Dale, Jody, Dean and then Joel. Johnny had various jobs from fueling airplanes, and decided to stay in the trash business with Waste Management. (I figured waste management is in his blood because he keeps stopping on a dime to pick up odds and ends such as tools and power tools. I now see how he got his tool collection so cheap). Johnny was a caring family man. He cared for his family and all of his grandchildren. April, Kyle, Joshua, Jason, Savanna, and Remy. Great grandchildren, Tyree, Isaiah, Kenny III, Kenna and Kennen. Johnny was very supportive of his grand kids sporting events rooting them on. He took Savanna to feed the ducks at a local park, and went fishing with her as well. He would let Remy crawl all over him. Johnny loved the attention. Johnny accepted all of his children’s friends as family and in a sense adopted them all into his family. Johnny had many passions, his favorites were bowling, fishing, hunting and most of all Bingo.
Within the last few years both Johnny and Shirley were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and after some time they were in need of long-term care. Dean and Renee felt the need to take on the responsibility of taking care of them They wanted to give it one last try before the inevitable nursing home admission. Johnny fell and broke his hip which started a hard-long recovery for an 81 year old man. He finally said I had enough and stopped eating and drinking. The family was called and visited on the weekend before his death. I feel he waited to say goodbye to his children friends and grandchildren. Johnny passed on Monday, June 22, 2020.
Johnny was a good man who loved his family, kind hearted, generous and would help anyone that needed it. He will be missed by everyone whom he interacted with.
