Gary Edward Schick

Gary Edward Schick, 80, of Greeley, Colorado passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 on Feast of the Assumption Day.

Gary was born in Sedalia, Missouri on July 6, 1943 to Harry Edward and Elsie Ruth (Miller) Schick. Ruth later married Wayne Reid Leiter and the family lived in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. They moved to Greeley in 1956, and Gary graduated from Greeley High School in 1961. In 1963 he joined the U.S. Navy and had a long and distinguished career. He spent nine years as an enlisted Hospital Corpsman and then became a commissioned medical service corps officer; retiring from the Navy as a Commander in 1995. He has degrees from Aims Community College, The George Washington University in Washington D.C. and an M.B.A. from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, California.

He had many duty stations in San Diego, California, Oakland, California, Camp Pendleton, California, Washington, D.C., Cairo, Egypt, Republic of the Philippines, Guam, and Treasure Island in the San Francisco bay. He also had a tour of duty with the Third Marine Air Wing in Santa Ana, California.

Gary was married to KerryJo Grogan for eighteen years, and they had no children.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Harry Edward Schick, his parents, Wayne and Ruth Leiter; his brother, Terry Wayne Leiter; and sister-in-law, Laura Leiter.

A special thanks to the staff of Westlake Lodge and Banner Hospice in Greeley.

Gary was very generous to Humane Societies, Military Assistance and Alzheimer's organizations.

Gary will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
