Surrounded by her family, Freda S. Tyler, 103, passed away peacefully on May 30th, 2022, in Greeley, Colorado. Freda was born on May 26th, 1919, to Friedrich “Fred” and Amalia “Mollie” (Schafer) Schott in Flowerfield, Nebraska.
Freda graduated from College High School and beauty school in Greeley. She worked as a beautician in Greeley for a number of years and was one of the earliest pledges of the Alpha Lambda chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority in Greeley, joining in 1942. Freda was adventurous and moved to Santa Monica, California, as a young woman. She worked at Montgomery Ward before settling into her career as the business manager at various Ford dealerships in the Los Angeles area.
On October 5th, 1962, Freda married Earl V. ‘Tim’ Tyler at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Long Beach, California. They were married 38 years until his death in 2001. Freda loved living in Southern California, mainly in Malibu and Long Beach, and greatly enjoyed the “California lifestyle” and becoming acquainted with the “rich and famous.” Freda and Tim were known for their entertaining and were quick to invite family and friends to experience the fun and the sun of L.A. The couple also enjoyed traveling together, with Las Vegas as a favorite destination, and were very supportive of Shriners International causes and activities. Freda continued to be active as a Masonic widow after Tim’s passing and was a member of the Santa Ana Assembly No. 61 of the Social Order of the Beauceant.
After retirement, Freda and Tim invested in real estate. Freda took great pride in her career as a businesswoman and was keen on managing her personal business and finances. She was fiercely independent and was active in managing her affairs until her death. A lifelong Lutheran, Freda was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Beach, California, as well as Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greeley. Freda liked to crochet and was an avid L.A. Dodgers fan and a loyal Republican. She never forgot her beloved dog Chico. Family and family history were very important to Freda, and she moved back to Greeley in 2011 to be near her family. Throughout her life, Freda was blessed by her many relatives, friends, and, eventually, caregivers.
Freda is survived by her nephews and nieces Gary and Carla Ikenouye, Nancy Ikenouye, Keith and Jodine Ikenouye, and Paula Ikenouye, as well as grand nephews and nieces Anthony Ikenouye, Larissa Ikenouye, Brittani and Brian Becker, Timothy Ikenouye, and Kaitlyn Ikenouye, sister-in-law Delores Hagge, and many dear cousins and in-laws.
Freda was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Alexander Schott, Arthur Schott, and Friedrich Schott, sisters Rose (Edwin) Landrie and Lillian (William) Ikenouye, and nephew William D. Ikenouye.
A memorial service will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 1800 21st Avenue in Greeley, on June 14th at 1:00 p.m. with entombment at Linn Grove Cemetery. A reception at the Greeley Country Club, 4500 W 10th St., will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children at 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607 or online at lovetotherescue.org.
