Emmett Robert Parr, 97, of Greeley, Colorado died June 26, 2017 at Life Care Center of Greeley. He was born August 26, 1919 in Beaumont, Texas to Edward Phillip Parr and Nettie Agnes (Boudreaux) Parr.
He married Helen E. Reeves in Houston, Texas on February 28, 1941. She died October 8, 2001 in Greeley. He married D. Kathleen Walker of Greeley on January 12, 2003.
Mr. Parr lived most of his life in Houston, Texas and graduated from Jefferson Davis Senior High School in 1938. He relocated from Brenham, Texas to Greeley on April 16, 1996.
During the period from 1939 to 1941, he was employed as an apprentice seaman in the Merchant Marines, working as a deck hand on sea going oil tankers. In November 1941, he was employed by the Western Electric Company, as a communication equipment installer.
A World War II veteran, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in November 1946. After his discharge from the Marines, he resumed his employment with the Western Electric Company and later transferred his employment to American Telephone and Telegraph Company, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of Gloria Christi Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. A life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2121, Greeley, and a charter and life member of the Marine Corps League (Union Colony Marines) detachment 1093, Greeley.
Survivors are his wife, D. Kathleen Walker-Parr, niece Jeanette Wallin and husband, Duane of Arizona and grand-niece Amy Schwab of Oklahoma City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Edwin Phillip Parr.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2017 at Stoddard Funeral Home with the Rev. Stephen Weiss officiating.
Interment will be at a later date in Brookside Memorial Park Cemetery, Houston, Texas.
