He attended Lone Star School and after graduation, attended NJC Sterling. He taught at South Valley School in Yuma from 1949 thru 1951, teaching 1st and 3rd grade after riding to work on his horse. He was drafted into the Korean Conflict in 1951, where he was in the Engineering Division and worked in Aero Photo Reproduction, making maps. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
After his service, Edward returned to Otis and began working for Haliburton, where he would meet his wife, Alice. He and Alice would go on to have four children, ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He began work at the post office shortly thereafter. He transferred with the post office to Greeley in 1970, and after 30 years, retired in 1990.
He was an avid Bronco fan and would arm chair Quarter Back every Sunday. He was a “Jack of all trades”, as he finished the basement at his home on 35th Avenue, as well as dozens of “Honey do’s” in addition he was the neighborhood mechanic for friends, neighbors and family.
He and Alice were instrumental in starting a weekly Bingo fundraiser, which they helped run for over 15 years, as well as other events for the Catholic school and church.
After he retired in 1990, he became “Papa’s Daycare” and babysitter for his grandkids.
Edward is survived by his daughter, Candyce Oster (Jerry) of Greeley; three sons, Rod Harr (Susan) of Loveland, Bob Harr (Linda) of Greeley and Pat Harr (Michelle) of Greeley; one sister, Merle Wilkins of Yuma; grandchildren, Alyson DeFilippo, Samantha Harmon, Morgan Harr, Jake Oster, Conner Harr, Zach Harr, Nikki Oster, Seth Oster, Caitlin Harr and Lucas Harr; great-grandchildren, Chloe Harmon, Dustin Harmon, Jr. and Elody Oster.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Alice and his brother, Carrol Harr.
Recitation of the Rosary will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 8, 2021 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. both at St. Mary Catholic Church, 2222 23rd Avenue, Greeley. Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
