Carol grew up in Platteville and graduated from Platteville High School in 1954. He served in the US Navy from January 27, 1955 to January 20, 1959. He served aboard the USS Newport News and the USS Albany, both heavy cruisers and aboard the USS Iowa, a Battleship. He received the Good Conduct medal and was honorably discharged as a Gunners Mate 3rd Class.
On April 25, 1958, he married Erminia Mary Succo in Reno, Nevada. She died on July 12, 2012.
After their marriage, they lived in Fort Lupton, later moving to their current home in Evans. He worked for the Greeley Tribune and later worked for Monfort of Colorado for 18 years. He then went to work for UNC for another 18 years. He retired from UNC in 1998.
Carol loved fishing, hunting and taking care of his garden and adventures with his grandchildren.
Carol is survived by his daughter, Cindy Archuleta of Evans; two sons, Steven Duane Markley and wife, Toni of Greeley and Dean A. Markley of Evans; brother, James Clifford Markley of Fort Collins; sister-in-law, Ann Markley of Brighton; ex-sister-in-law, Doreen Sutton of Windsor; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law who reside in California; four grandchildren, Anthony Archuleta and wife, Morgan of Greeley, Jordan Archuleta of Evans, Taylor Markley of Greeley and Marissa Archuleta of Evans and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, sister, Evelyn “Bena” Alden and her husband Charles “Chuck” Alden and a brother, Jack Vernon Markley.
Graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 at Evans Cemetery. There will be a luncheon immediately after the service for those who would like to celebrate Carol’s life with the family.
