Betty May Sampson Donelan, 90, of Greeley, formerly of Colorado Springs, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2021, at Grace Pointe in Greeley. Betty was born May 14, 1931, in Mississippi to Charles Edward and May Best (Colvard) Sampson. She married William Joseph Donelan, III, on May 29, 1954 in Greenwood, MS. Bill died on June 10, 2019.
Betty was born and raised in Greenwood, MS. She graduated from Greenwood Leflore High School in May 1949. She attended Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, MS, graduating with a degree in Library Science in 1953.
Betty and Bill lived in Georgia, Cheyenne, Omaha, Hawaii, and Colorado Springs, moving around due to Bill’s service in the U.S. Air Force.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Colorado Springs. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, and had a “green thumb” for houseplants. She supported Bill through his 20-year Air Force career and loved her family and time spent with them.
Betty is survived by her son William Joseph Donelan IV; and daughters Leslie Donelan Piché and Jean Donelan Wilt; 8 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, and by her brother Charles E. Sampson Jr.
Services for Betty will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Allnutt Funeral Service, Macy Chapel, 6521 W. 20th Street, Greeley, CO 80634. Interment will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery where Betty will be laid to rest with her husband.
